I don't believe you or shallow and you shouldn't feel guilty. Sometimes you just need time away from autism. I have a 5yr old son who was dx with PDD at 2 1/2yrs...and since then my life seems to be consumed with autism. So it is a good thing when we can just take a break from it.
God bless you! :)

Beauty was first diagnosed when she was 9 months old by a consultant paediatrician and it was confirmed by a professor who specialised in autism when she was just over 2 so it seems like we have always known about her problems and so we have had time to adjust. I think a diagnosis of autism is a bit like mourning in the sense that you go through many stages . At the moment Beauty is progressing VERY WELL so we all feel good about everything so our life is as 'normal' as you can get it but I think problems will hit again at puberty.Something to look forward to I suppose!!

An Irish Blessing

(A Blessing from St. Patrick)
May the road rise to meet you,

May the wind be always at your back,

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

May the rains fall soft upon your fields,

And, until we meet again,

May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.
